Celebrated astronomer, Knut Jorgen Roed Odegaard has said that he had never experienced such an astral phenomenon.[1]
Wednesday morning on the 9th of December, 2009, an unusual UFO phenomena was seen over the Norwegian skies. The phenomena was of a bright blue spiraling light with a jet trail that lasted almost two full minutes and was observed by millions and replayed over news stations all over the world. The light phenomena obviously did not belong to nature and led viewers around the world to ask "are we alone?"
As quick as alien enthusiasts are to jump the gun on anything that might give them tangent proof of extraterrestrial existence, could there be a more logical explanation for this phenomena? Several rocket scientists accustomed to studying the operations of military missiles have said that this phenomena, although very beautiful, was nothing more than a malfunctioning rocket. The spiral plume was caused from motors directed at a right degree angel which caused the rocket itself to spiral through the air. The bluish hue of the spectacle is believed to be from aluminum oxide commonly found in propellant for rocket engines. Dr. Dimpfl, a missile researcher for the US Air Force and NASA, added "What I believe is that the blue is from solar fluorescence from chemicals in the plume. That’s just aluminium oxide that the sunlight is scattering from. Aluminum oxide is the chemical formula for sapphires, so what you’re looking at is sunlight scattering off lots of tiny sapphires." [2] Bill Harwood, CBS News' space analyst, claimed that the Norwegian phenomena reminded him of a failed mission off Cape Canaveral in 1989. [3]
So if the light phenomena can be explained as a rocket, then surely someone would have to be accountable for firing a rocket? Absolutely right. Russia's Defense Ministry released a statement on Thursday (December 11, 2009) stating that they had test launched a Bulava ballistic missile from a submarine in the White Sea on that Wednesday morning. The Russians reported that problems emerged when the missile deployed its third stage engine which led to it veering off course and out of Russian control. [2][3]
The plausible explanation for Norway's wintery phenomena is a Russian ballistic missile that spiraled out of control. However, this has not hindered UFO enthusiasts from believing that this could be a sign of something or someone "out there." Some even claim this could be the first sign of more to come. Or perhaps it was Santa test driving is sleigh for the big night to come.
